ANTONIO HUERTA 
ANTONIO HUERTA
Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Universitat
Politècnica de Catalunya and Director of ICREA. Master in
Civil Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de
Catalunya (1983). PhD from Northwestern University
(1987). His research focuses on mathematical modeling
and computational engineering. More precisely, it is
oriented to develop new mathematical models and
numerical methods that allow predictive and quantitative
science and engineering. Thus combining concepts,
methods and principles that are often interdisciplinary in
nature and span several areas such as mechanics,
mathematics, and computer science, among others. He has been visiting professor at the
Joint Research Center of the European Commission (Ispra), the École Centrale Nantes,
Swansea University and Chuo University. He is the elected president of the International
Association for Computational Mechanics and has received Honoris Causa doctorates
(from University of Liège and École Centrale Nantes) and several awards, such as the
Prandtl Medal, in its first edition, by the European Community on Computational Methods
in Applied Sciences. He is an elected member of the Spanish National Academy of
Engineering.





CARLOS ARMANDO DUARTE 
CARLOS ARMANDO DUARTE
Armando Duarte is a Professor and Excellence Faculty Scholar at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He is affiliated with the UIUC Computational Science and Engineering Program, a Fellow of the United States Associate for Computational Mechanics, and a Fellow of National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Armando Duarte holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from The University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on computational mechanics and Generalized Finite Element Methods with focus on computational fracture mechanics, multi-scale and multi-physics problems such as hydraulic fracture propagation and failure of structural connections. Dr. Duarte’s group has a history of collaborative research with industrial (ExxonMobil, GE) and national laboratory (AFRL, FAA-CEAT) partners.





EDUARDO ALBERTO FANCELLO 
EDUARDO ALBERTO FANCELLO
Eduardo Alberto Fancello has graduated as Electromechanical Engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba – Argentina in 1987 and received his Ph.D. degree at COPPE – Universidade Federal de Rio de Janeiro – Brasilin 1993. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in 1994, where he occupies the position of full professor. He develops teaching and supervisor activities at the Post-graduate Program on Mechanical Engineering at UFSC heading this program during the period 2009 to 2012. He was a visiting Scholar at the Mechanical and Aerospace Department of the University de Liege, Belgium (2005). His research areas focus structural topology optimization techniques and, more recently, constitutive modelling on polymeric materials and biological tissues ass well as numerical simulations of biomechanical systems and medical devices.

Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, PUC/RJ 1990. Pos-Doctorate at the Center for Applied Mathematics, Purdue West Lafayette USA,1996.

SERGIO PERSIVAL BARONCINI PROENÇA
Full Professor at the Department of Structural Engineering of the São Carlos School of Engineering/ USP. Graduated in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Paraná in July / 1978. PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of São Paulo / S.Carlos (1988). Postdoctorate at the Polytechnic of Milan (1990-1991). He got his Habilitation for Associate Professor in 1997. In January 2004, he was approved in the contest for Full Professor at Department of Structural Engineering of the São Carlos School of Engineering. He is researcher 1B from CNPq and has completed the orientation of twenty-two doctorates (the last of them a double diploma with France) and twenty-five master‘s dissertations. From March to June 2008, he was a visiting researcher at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. For different short periods he was also a visiting researcher at the Mechanics and Technology Laboratory of Cachan / France and at the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon. Develops research projects and collaborations with the Polytechnic of Milan, Laboratory of Mechanics and Technology of Cachan / France, Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He coordinates the research group accredited by CNPQ and named: SCIEnCE. He has developed research with emphasis on Structural Engineering, acting on the following subjects: damage and fracture mechanics, nonlinear analysis of structures, generalized finite element method and shell structures. He collaborates with the undergraduate degree in Aeronautical Engineering of the São Carlos School of Engineering teaching the disciplines of Mechanics of Aeronautical Structures I and II. In the master‘s and doctorate programs of the postgraduate course in Structural Engineering, he is responsible for the disciplines Nonlinear Structural Analysis, Generalized Finite Element Method and Thin Shell Structural Mechanics.
